Artà

This municipality in the northeast of Mallorca has now become an insider’s tip for travelers and residents. The area has over 25 km of coastline and is still mostly undeveloped. Bordered by the Bay of Alcúdia to the west and the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the municipality consists of a diverse cultural and natural landscape characterized by mountains, sea and forests, as well as small, unspoiled villages.

A picturesque small town

With its narrow, steep streets and the Sant Salvador pilgrimage church located at its highest point, the small, tranquil town of Artá is surrounded by an idyllic, hilly landscape. Almond and olive groves line the village near the coast.

A small town with that certain something

In addition to several cozy restaurants, a small marketplace, bars and boutiques located in the shopping street, numerous galleries and studios have taken residence in the town. And justifiably Artà is popularly known as an artists' stronghold. On the facades of the buildings, if you look closely, you will always discover small, hidden works of art. There is also a museum in Artà, which includes an extensive ornithological collection, a theater and a library. 

One highlight in the center of the old town is definitely the hotel-restaurant FornNou, which offers great cuisine at quite reasonable prices. If you are in the mood, you can also enjoy a nightcap around the corner in the Vermuteria and also take in a view of the elegant town houses. The market is held every Tuesday from 9-14 o'clock and attracts visitors from all over Mallorca at every time of the year.

Activities around Artá

For hikers and nature lovers there are also many options for activities starting from here. North of the municipality of Artà lies the Massis d'Artà mountain range, most of which is between 300 and 600 meters high. In these mountains, which cover more than half of the municipality's area, hikers as well as leisure walkers will find numerous opportunities for exploration and excursions in the landscape characterized by olive trees, dwarf palms and pine forests.

From Artà you can also visit, for example, the wide sandy beach of S'Arenal de Sa Canova with its impressive dunes. From here, a coastal hiking trail leads past dizzying cliffs and secluded coves to the small village of Colonia de Sant Pere.
